Every cloud has a silver lining

By Thomas Gerbrands | Latest News

Twist & Shout

For the last two months we have been sharing that all these crazy cool technologies are merged in this magnificent portable device. The way our decentralised solution connects with the changes that are happening in the online world. We tried to convince everybody that our solution is the best.

And we ended up in discussions....

Discussions with experienced people about traditional solutions like mixing consoles. In discussions with musicians and videographers who mastered the skill of multitrack recording.

We tried to convince you over and over....

...and we've learned one simple thing.

It is not really about technology.

It is about our shared admiration for the process of creating content. Technology is constantly evolving. We implement exactly that dynamic technology to keep improving our service. We offer a way of thinking, a vision, a direction to value our proposition and to change things for the better.

We honour great musicians and creatives that design the content we enjoy so much. We live in a time where music and video have become instant coffee. A fixed formula that can easily be generated by a computer and lip-synced on stage. We ask ourselves the question: “Is it real?”

The live experience is the soul of music. We bring back that craft of playing music and honour this with live sound! We believe that creators will change the recorded music industry for the better. Music is audio. Audio is so much more. Today’s creative content is amplified by audio. We focus on any creative work that involves audio in any form. That is where we want to make a difference. That is where we want to connect.

Why would you record audio in the cloud?

By Thomas Gerbrands | Latest News

Cloud Vision

Once upon a time people recorded and listened to music using tapes and vinyl. Until this day audiophiles still believe this delivers the best quality in recorded music. In the past 50 years a lot has changed, but these methods are still valid and widely used.

New technology did arrive. The production process is changing. With a laptop and a variety of software, bedroom producers became a valuable source for audio production.

Meanwhile listeners followed a fascinating path along new forms and mediums. From vinyl we went to walkmans. From walkmans we arrived at iPods. With a disrupting decade of illegal downloads, finally, the streaming services arrived. The music industry is recovering and it is cloud-based. What will be next?

Today the listening experience is focused on cloud services. It provides an easy-to-use, low-entry, sponsored or subscription form of music consumption. We see this in many shapes in the entertainment industry with a leading role for the gaming industry (Steam), closely followed by films and series (Netflix) and music (Spotify, Apple Music)

On the production side the immense development of technology has been a real game-changer. The fast evolution of hard- & software pushed the production process forward. New styles of music emerged along the way. It made music production easy accessible and today more and more people engage with the creation of music.

At the same time we see that few techniques survive the ravages of time. That is evolution. Survival of the fittest. A cross-breed of the old and the new, delivering improved forms, carried out by creators and consumers. That is why we say: "Let’s go hybrid!"

We create the future. Change is happening all the time. Streaming as a consumer of audio and video is the new norm. The internet of things (IoT) and 5G mobile networks (5G) are just a next step. The cost of chipsets and cloud space are getting cheaper and cheaper rapidly. We believe that the future of recording audio is cloud-based, and it is already happening.

Your Daily Life In The Cloud

Currently there are already many cloud-based services that are part of your daily routine. For instance with Google Drive you can store files, share documents and collaborate online. Google Docs transformed the well-known Microsoft Office into a virtual office in the cloud. Today it has become a regular thing in any business or industry to collaborate in documents (Word), spreadsheets (Excel) and presentations (Powerpoint).

Dropbox is another company that is taking its cloud service to the next level. With dropbox you can save files online and synchronise those files on different devices. It is easy to share them or add them to your email and so on. With additional services as Dropbox Paper task management, creative briefing and time management are taken into an online environment in the cloud.

Last but not least we like to point out the versatile solution by Apple: iCloud. With iCloud you can synchronise contacts, calendars and documents. iCloud stores music, apps, photos, notes and even diaries to secure your data as a back-up system and synchronises them among your (Apple) devices. If something changes on one device, all other devices are updated automatically and wirelessly.

Of course there are many other cloud services available. We would like to investigate them specifically in the audio industry.

What about creative clouds?

For consumers of music and video there are already many cloud solutions available. Actually it delivered an extreme change in consumption of digital entertainment. Services like Soundcloud, Spotify and YouTube need no further discussion. We have seen online collaboration initiatives like Bandlab, Soundtrap, Jamkazam, and many others using cloud-based software tools in many different forms. Also there are specific cloud services for audio processing and online documentation. Let us walk through a few of them to get a better understanding.

Avid Cloud Solutions offers several cloud-based solutions for creative individuals and media teams attached to their hardware products. With their cloud services they improve the workflow for collaboration and simplify logistics, management, distribution and storage of media files such as audio and video.

Roland Cloud is a cloud-based suite of software synthesizers, drum machines, and sampled instruments. The idea is that any subscriber always has access to the latest updated versions of Roland’s software instruments. Besides being always up-to-date, Roland Cloud also aims to be a worldwide community of music enthusiasts, creators and producers developing and sharing new sounds and ideas.

How does this fit Reclouder?

The basic idea behind Reclouder is to upgrade the quality of your creative work and benefit from the latest trends and technology. With the arrival of 5G and IoT, Reclouder takes you into the next decade of recording audio. Reclouder offers a future ready solution for recording audio with cloud-based services and solutions.

Reclouder is designed from a decentralized perspective. This is different then all the other recording devices on the market. They all offer a centralised solution operated by one single person. Think about live mixing consoles, multitrack recorders, audio interfaces and laptops. With Reclouder every creator can own a device and this provides digital data for ownership, split sheets and copyrights. We record audio with the end result in mind.

The first Reclouder

We have developed a versatile solution that connects with musicians, videographers, DJs and sound engineers. This is our first model. When we launch this model successfully we will deliver more dedicated models adjusted to the needs of specific cases. Think about drummers and guitar players. Also we are constantly improving our cloud service and firmware. The best is yet to come.

The essence of Reclouder

Reclouder is in essence an SD recorder. It functions as a lossless audio thru-box as well. This means that you can record the same signal that is injected into the live sound. For instance, while musicians play on stage, Reclouder records and the audience enjoys. Whenever Reclouder connects with Wi-Fi, it will automatically upload the recordings in the cloud. From the cloud you can select the best recordings for processing and forward this to your production engineer. Or download it to process in your favourite DAW. You can also link multiple Reclouders with bluetooth, control it with your smartphone and record in multiple sound sources at once.

Reclouder and video production

Reclouder allows videographer to focus on shooting video and at the same time, with a quick setup, you can get premium audio recordings without complicated operations. As a videographer you connect any mic you already own, adjust the gain and start recording. The auto gain feature will make sure you always get the perfect audio file. In addition, especially for multi-camera recording, there is not any wireless solution in the market that allows you to synchronise multitrack audio recording that easily.

Reclouder Cloud Service

If you want to record audio for music or video it is common that you bring an engineer along or compromise on quality. With Reclouder you can easily set up your audio recording system and focus on your music or shooting video. What it essentially does is record audio together with your best microphones, equipment and instruments. It is an additional value to your current setup and workflow.

More recordings, more work, more knowledge

Now every creator can record high quality audio without any expertise or technical knowledge. You record audio, store and sync your recordings in the cloud and document your audio files for post-production. This is important. With Reclouder the creator creates and the engineer processes. You no longer need to ask a live sound engineer to record your audio, you can share your recordings from the cloud and let your studio engineer take care of editing and processing in post-production. This can be done almost instantly. You can also chose to process your recordings yourself when you are ready to do so.

The cloud and beyond

One of the main advantages of using cloud services is that it evolves and develops without you having to update anything. With Reclouder we are looking to streamlining your workflow. We offer a fast and easy solution for recording and sharing audio files. Besides that we are developing dedicated audio processing tools integrated in our cloud service.

If you are a public speaker, musician, videographer, DJ or recording engineer you can use our effective tools to take care of the job. You can think of services as mixing, mastering, equalisation, noise reduction and more. If you do not have any experience with audio processing, our cloud service offers many solutions to upgrade the quality of your audio and take care of a professional outcome. Our cloud service is focused on delivering high quality results that suit the needs of your project.

A special message to sound engineers

Consider this, as an experienced engineer, why not outsource simple audio editing and processing to our cloud service? It might be cost-efficient and faster if our service can cut the entire live recording into separate songs, sync the files, take care of time consuming basics and deliver them back to you.

Consider the amount of extra work you can do and clients you can serve. Think differently. What if we offered an online marketplace, an online platform, where you can offer your skills and get more clients? Think ahead. How can this benefit your business and how can you integrate the skills you've improved over the years?

We consider that live sound and live music recording are two different things. We do not replace the console nor the sound engineer. While you focus on live sound and make sure the audience and the band have the best experience, Reclouder can be set up easily and operated by anyone to record audio. The production engineer, who prefers the studio over a live mixing console, can take care of post-production from the comfort of the studio.

The survey

We do not have the answer for everything. That is why we value your feedback and opinions highly. The more you share your ideas and experiences with us, the better we can improve our product. That is why we want your feedback to deliver and develop the best service you can imagine. Straight from the cloud. We have conducted a simple survey to get a better understanding of your needs. It will take you way less than 2 minutes to fill in the form and help building the future of audio recording.

It is already changing our lives. We will contact you soon to get your feedback on our cloud service. Become part of the movement by interacting with us. We will keep you posted.

Now that we've announced our official retail price, it is time to explain how we came to this point. Get some serious insights and detailled information about our innovative approach to recording audio. Are you ready? Let's go hybrid!

Beyond the traditional audio recorder

In our previous blog post you had the opportunity to meet our "decentralized wireless hybrid audio recorder”. That sounds great and adventurous, don’t you think? You might think it is just hollow phrases. It is only a bunch of marketing terms, right? Please allow us to change your mind on this.

We carefully considered our wording to position our invention. This blog is about explaining those terms and give them the value they deserve. You can follow, step by step, the breakdown of our product. Just read and investigate!

Let us start at the end. We all understand that recording audio is an essential part of your production process as a videographer, musician, sound engineer or DJ. There are multiple solutions on the market ranging from audio interfaces and mobile apps towards all-in-one multitrack recorders with integrated microphone capsules. We can imagine you think: “I am okay with my current solution, so why change?” or “What is so smart about your solution?” and “How does this benefit me?”

You skepticism is an important part of our motivation. We thrive on thinking differently. One needs to be honest and thorough to improve and grow. Reclouder is challenging your familiar ways of recording audio. It offers a new angle. A new approach. Try to think different. Along the way you might find that this approach offers you a totally new workflow to recording high-quality audio.

What is so smart about Reclouder?

We’ve received this question many times during our promotional campaigns and discussions with recording specialists. Reclouder is the easiest way to store, sync and share audio recordings. It combines today’s technologies and your traditional workflow to get you ready for the future of audio recording. With the current trends of 5G, cloud services and the internet of things, Reclouder offers you a different viewpoint, another perspective and a future-ready approach to recording audio. Thinking ahead is what we call smart.

Reclouder offers a standalone solution that connects with your preferred microphone(s). You can use one recording device with the integrated SD card and power it with replaceable AAA batteries to record audio on any location. As we said before, we’d like to challenge you to think further. Reclouder is fully expandable. You can add a potentially endless amount of units along the way. This way you can build your own modular recording network. You can record in varying compositions. As every musician will own a Reclouder, you can link the units in a specific live recording and create a session that correspondents with the units that joined it.

Reclouder offers both an audio input for recording and a lossless audio thru functionality for stage mixing, making it the most versatile solution for recording live music. Reclouder will seamlessly integrate into your live setup and will honour the importance of your live sound.

The best things in life are driven by simplicity. We believe that Reclouder is easy to operate and simple to understand. It is a solution that gives access to high-quality audio recording for a wide range of creators. We carefully designed every component of Reclouder’s hardware and are constantly improving the firmware and cloud service to keep offering you the best.

You must have read this term quite often on our website, blog and social channels. We think you deserve a complete and full explanation from us.

If you investigate audio recording you will notice that every setup is build from a centralized way of thinking. Consider live mixing consoles, audio interfaces and portable multitrack recordings. They all have one thing in common. They are designed to direct your recording signals to one device: controlled, operated and owned by one person.

While designing Reclouder we took in account the final stage of your music business. It is the monetisation and collection of royalties generated by your songs. With Reclouder we considered that every member, every sound source, can have a different creator or audio input associated with it. This is not mandatory. That is how we keep Reclouder versatile. We think in solutions, but we do not force them upon you. You are free to choose whatever fits your workflow.

You can use Reclouder as a centralized solution and operate it as a sound engineer. No problem. On the other hand you can use it for recording live music as a band itself. Every band member then operates one Reclouder.

You can use Reclouder to enhance the audio in your video project and expand it to complex multi-camera setups with single or multiple sound sources. Working from a decentralized state of mind offers a new way of thinking. It allows you to set up your recording network differently without compromising on your traditional workflow.

All audio signals run through wires. This offers the best quality. We are not here to offer you an audio over bluetooth solution. We use the term wireless differently. We offer a wireless solution to create a decentralized recording network. With our top grade Bluetooth technology - compliant with Bluetooth v4.2 BR/EDR and BLE specifications - you can create a potentially endless network of Reclouders, connected peer-2-peer,  easily controlled with your mobile device while using our simple yet effective mobile application.

You can record on the integrated SD cards first and, when connected with wifi, our hybrid device automatically stores and syncs your recordings in the cloud. From the cloud you can instantly share the recorded files with your best sound engineer, producer or grant access to VIPs, co-workers and band members. Our cloud service is constantly evolving. You can expect more features and services to arrive in the future.

As we like to keep your options open, you can control the recording process directly from the hardware device or with our mobile app. Both with one single touch. It is as easy as a breeze. Together with our cloud service you streamline your workflow and automate the  production processes. Believe us if we say: "the best is yet to come, we are just getting started".

Hybrid is indeed some kind of fancy word. Hybrid is used in cars that run on fossil fuel and electric power. Hybrid solutions are a way to adjust and transfer from one traditional form to a new innovative form. It is an in between solution. It stands for transition. What does that mean?

We offer you a traditional solution to recording audio. While we do that, we add several exciting technologies, ranging from bluetooth to wifi, to create a new approach to recording audio.

We strongly believe this is the future and while we are already streaming as a consumer, you are getting ready to stream as a creator. The internet of things and 5G mobile networks are just a small next step in that direction and Reclouder is just the beginning of your adjustment to this. With Reclouder you are ready for the IoT revolution in the recorded music industry.

Breaking down Reclouder hardware

To give you better insights in development decisions we’ve made, we compared Reclouder with another fairly new recording device. Please note that we do not want to bash this product. Actually, we think it is a clever product which we would recommend in particular cases. What we try to do is give you a better understanding of the choices we’ve made based on the features and specification of our hardware device.

The Mixerface R4R is a USB audio interface with independent inputs and monitor controllers. It can be used as a mini-mixer. Reclouder is different. It can record multiple channels in a wireless recording network. This network consists out of multiple hardware units and is scalable to a potentially endless number of channels, thus hardware units. Every Reclouder offers a flexible set of inputs creating an all-round solution with dedicated focus on hybrid recording of high quality audio.

Reclouder offers several pricing solutions for your multichannel recording project. The first one is a special price for early adopters. The other one is a bundle package when you purchase multiple units. We would like to inform you further on this subject, but you’d have to be a bit more patient.

To ensure the wireless and wifi capabilities of Reclouder we chose to build our device with a sturdy hard plastic casing. Any grade of metal or aluminium, as used in the Mixerface R4R, will interfere with the wireless signals.

Wireless Audio Recording for DJs

Reclouder is designed for live music and video projects. For recording music related projects, you can connect your dynamic or phantom power (+48v) condenser microphone or line signal to a Reclouder unit and expand the number of units in your wireless recording network if you desire more channels.

Wireless Audio Recording for singers and vocalists

You have one dedicated combo input that can record mono (mic) and stereo (line). We’ve added a combo mic/line lossless audio thru option, especially useful for recording live music with a PA mixer. As you might have noticed there is no instrument input. We designed Reclouder as a microphone thru box. For guitar and bass players this means you either connect your pedalboard or your amp output on stage. This will keep your live recordings close to the original live sound your audience is experiencing.

Wireless Audio Recording for bass and guitar players

Reclouder is also suitable for single and multi-camera projects with one single or multiple sound sources. With plug-in power and two 3.5 mini-jack inputs you can connect two video microphones, or lavaliers and even a video condenser mic. This offers a wide range of applications for videographers.

Wireless Audio Recording for videographers and video projects

As you noticed there is no USB data connector and only a record button on the hardware unit. This is done deliberately. Reclouder is not an audio interface nor an audio player. Reclouder focuses on recording audio. You can monitor the results of your recording using a headphone or through our mobile app. We offer a dedicated gain control and an ultra precise 8 LED level monitor to do the job for you.

With bluetooth and wifi functionality we offer a complete and versatile solution to recording your audio projects. Consider our solution and think about what it can do for you.

If you have any smart ideas, projects or applications, feel free to let us know. We would like to hear more: drop us a comment below!

We are Reclouder!

By Thomas Gerbrands | Latest News

Stop struggling and streamline your workflow!

Today recording audio can be complex and time consuming. You need to be an expert to record your entire band live on stage. It takes time to set up a multitrack recording device and rewire your instruments correctly using the available live mixer.

When you are working in a video project, you want to focus on capturing the best footage. You have invested in the best cameras and professional mics. Recording audio is really a different ball game than shooting video.

We know that feeling. That feeling of uncertainty. Will it record correctly? What about noise levels? What about gain levels? Can you manage this without your technician or engineer at your side? Will the recorded material be sufficient for your producer to really produce a satisfying result?

That time, setting up a proper recording system can be really stressful. Add to that the time pressure and frustration. This can take over your entire project. Do you really know what you are doing?

You do not want that. You want to focus on performing live on stage and ensure that your band is ready to perform the best gig for your respected audience. You no longer need to bother the live sound engineer of the venue or further frustrate your fellow musicians with yet another live recording ready to fail.

You want to capture every single source of audio in the best possible way. You want to make sure it is properly recorded, synced and ready for processing when you arrive home. We at Reclouder say:

Stop struggling and streamline your workflow!

Multitrack audio recording

What can Reclouder do for you?

Reclouder is build to record and only record on both SD card and in the cloud. Our pro grade preamp is compatible with your best mics, instruments and cameras. With Reclouder it becomes easy to record, from a single source or a complete wireless audio network with multiple sources.

Now you can simply record your DJ set or band live on stage. Or upgrade your audio recordings for any given video project. It is fast and effective.

Audio Recording Multitrack

How does Reclouder work?

Reclouder functions as a lossless audio Thru-box with build in recorder. This means you connect your mic or instrument to the input of Reclouder and wire further using the direct thru connection and you are good to go. It will seamlessly adapt to your existing setup. Simply integrate it in your current workflow. Really! Everybody can do this.

You can create a decentralized wireless recording network by connecting multiple Reclouders via Bluetooth. You can control this network with our mobile app. While you focus on creating music and capturing sound, a cloud session is created. Every session consists out of multiple tracks. Every track represents one Reclouder.

When connected to your preferred Wi-Fi network, Reclouder will automatically upload into this cloud session. Eventually, you will store all your audio files in the cloud.

From this cloud you can grab the raw recordings for further production. Or just grant permission to your producers that can do the work for you. It is as easy as a breeze.

Wireless Audio Recording

In the cloud? Why should I want that?

Remember iTunes? That was the time everyone downloaded music on computers with hard disks and transferred music to portable MP3 players. Today, everyone is streaming music directly using their mobile devices. You can listen to music anytime, anywhere and you always have access to this amazing cloud catalog. Without computer. Without hard disks.

We think the same goes for recording music. Why use hard disks, file transfer and complex equipment if you can simply use our portable recorder and connect it to the cloud? You can record anytime, anywhere. Create an entire cloud music archive and share access for further production of your material.

When you are recording with Reclouder you will have access to your personalised cloud service. This is the place where all your recordings will be clearly documented. Uploading will be done automatically. The waiting for files to be transferred from your SD card to your computer is over. This will save you a lot of time.

Stop worrying about a complex multitrack recording setup. Don’t even bother bringing your laptop and audio interface to your gig. You no longer need to pay for features, complex menus and microphone capsules of your multitrack recorder you will never use.

The storage capacity of our cloud service is potentially endless. There is literally no reason not to record. Furthermore, your recordings will never get lost. Unless you decide to delete it. Compare it to your email in your online account or your posts on social media. You are in complete control. You decide who has access. You decide what stays or goes and what will be processed in post-production.

All session files in the cloud are compatible with your favourite DAW. Share your recordings with the best production engineers, VIPs and band members directly from the cloud. Just simplify your process and focus on your productions!

It is the end of complexity without compromising on quality. Secure your recordings and keep it safe. Save time. Reduce stress. Ready to rock. With Reclouder there are no more deal breakers.

And you deserve it!
